Scholarship

SWEA
South Florida's Cultural Scholarship 2009

SWEA is a nonprofit global organization, dedicated to promoting Swedish culture, traditions and the Swedish language.

SWEA was founded in 1979 and has over 8000 members in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America and Asia. SWEA South Florida was founded in 1992.

The goal of SWEA South Florida?s Cultural Scholarship is to encourage and support any well merited male or female residing in Florida, who wishes to study or pursue projects in one or the following areas with specific emphasis on Sweden or Swedish aspects: 

  • The Swedish language
  • Swedish culture or traditions
  • Environmental science
  • A Healthcare program promoting better health for women and children
  • Handicraft, Art, Glass art, Music, Literature or Design
  • An exchange program with Sweden

The studies or the project shall be well defined in time and content.

The scholarship for the 2009 academic year is two thousand dollars ($ 2000).
The application should be received by the scholarship committee on or before February 1st 2009. Print, complete and return application to:

No applications sent by e-mail will be accepted.

The committee will review and present all the applications and recommend the most qualified applicant to the board of SWEA South Florida.
The board of SWEA South Florida will make the final decision in awarding the scholarship. The applicant will be notified no later than April 1st.
The president of SWEA South Florida will inform the recipient in writing about the award and procedures that follow.

Within three months after the end of studies or project, the recipient of the scholarship must report to the Scholarship Committee or, if possible, accept an invitation to a SWEA meeting to share their experience.
