SWEA San Francisco Scholarship
SWEA is a non-profit global organization, dedicated to promoting Swedish culture and traditions in countries outside Sweden. Founded in 1979, the organization now has over 80 chapters in 38 countries on six continents. SWEA San Francisco was founded in 1982.

SWEA San Francisco's Scholarship, in the amount of $5,000.00, will be awarded to a highly qualified individual in the Western United States to pursue academic research or artistic endeavors with particular relevance to Sweden. The candidate's project may include, but is not limited to, work in areas such as Swedish culture, history, art, literature, media or science. It is expected that the project will be completed within a year. The outcome should be of a kind that can be shared with other interested groups or parties and so help spread knowledge about Sweden abroad. The scholarship will not be awarded for learning Swedish or for participation in exchange programs. The applicant must reside permanently outside Sweden. One or two smaller scholarships may also be awarded.

Application Procedure
1. Complete the Application Form

2. Prepare the following:
    (a) A full CV or resume
    (b) A detailed description of the purpose of the project, one or two pages long. The description may be in English or Swedish. However, if knowledge of the Swedish language has a bearing on the project, the description needs to be written in Swedish.
  • Give a short description of your interests. Describe the project itself. What is its purpose? How long will it take to complete? Have you already started it? Where will it be carried out? Include samples if appropriate.
  • Describe in detail how the scholarship funds will be used and include a budget.

    (c) Samples of previous work (written work, pictures of artistic work, etc.)

3. Contact SWEA at this address: scholarship@sweasanfrancisco.org. Address information will be provided after initial contact. Applications must be submitted by regular mail.

4. At least two (2) letters of recommendation are required from individuals who know you well, professionally, academically or as an artist. The letters should be confidential. They should be sent by email directly to SWEA San Francisco Scholarship Committee at scholarship@sweasanfrancisco.org.

Submission Date
The application must be received on or before April 1, 2010. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

The recipient will be notified no later than April 30, 2010 and may be invited to make presentations at a SWEA San Francisco meeting.
