27th Annual
Christmas Fair
Nov 18, 2012

Since 1986, SWEA New Jersey has hosted the Swedish Christmas Fair in Montclair to celebrate Christmas and the holiday season. The event attracts a large number of visitors every year and it is a well-received event in New Jersey.

Watch the movie from the 26th Christmas Fair in November 2011 by Nordstjernan.

About the Fair
The Swedish Christmas fair has something for everyone.  There will be a great selection of food, crafts, and gifts.  Swedish handicrafts like handmade Christmas decorations, rag rugs, linen, and wooden items and a variety of cheeses, herring and other Swedish delicacies as well as home baked goods (bread, cookies, and cakes) are available for you to buy.  In the Swedish café, you can enjoy delicious Swedish open-faced sandwiches, waffles, coffee-bread, pastries, and a large variety of drinks. Glögg, a typical Swedish spiced holiday drink, is also being offered.

Two raffles are being held: one with an immediate drawing which gives you the opportunity to select your prize; the second has wonderful prizes, such as a trip to Stockholm, Sweden with SAS, and a beautiful Kosta Boda Glass bowl. The drawing for this raffle will be held in February at SWEA New Jersey's annual meeting.

At 11 am and 2 pm, you can enjoy the Lucia pageant and her choir singing and lightening up the holiday season!

The fair is SWEA New Jersey's largest fundraiser of the year.  Profits go to  organizations promoting the Swedish language and culture and to the educational fund, where a yearly scholarship is given to a student for a project in line with SWEA's objectives.

About SWEA

SWEA, Swedish Women's Educational Association Inc., is a global non-profit organization for Swedish-speaking women who live or who have lived abroad. We gather to enjoy our Swedish language, background and culture. SWEA has both a meeting side and a safety net with links all over the world, working at making life abroad easier and providing support when arriving in a new place or when returning to the homeland.

SWEA's objective is to protect the Swedish language, and to support and inform about Swedish culture and traditions. Also, SWEA acts as an intermediary in supplying personal and professional contacts and establishing a network for members throughout the world.

SWEA supports education through scholarships and various projects with a Swedish connection.

Today, SWEA has approximately 8,000 members in 74 local chapters in 35 countries on 5 continents. The organization was started by Agneta Nilsson in Los Angeles in 1979. Princess Christina, Mrs. Magnuson, is Honorary President.
